Hometown Learning Centers was founded by Barbara and James Eberle and born out of a passion to help children experience a successful education. Having raised three children, the Eberle's are proud that each has successfully achieved college degrees and pursued fulfilling careers as consultants, educators and business managers. Barbara and Jim have been married for 46 years and join together to contribute their skills to the development of Hometown Learning Centers.
Jim, a retired CPA, brings with him years of experience (35) where he consulted for Fortune 500 companies, directed teams of consultants on a variety of engagements, served on various non-for-profit charity boards (Grace Hill and The Nursery Foundation - St. Louis, Missouri), and was a founding partner for a national tax consulting business that currently employed hundreds of professionals in the United States as well as numerous international locations. Jim has been licensed as a CPA in multiple jurisdictions, including Missouri, Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC.
Barbara is a graduate of the University of Maryland, University College (1994, Magna Cum Laude) and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi. In addition Barbara earned a Master's Degree in Family Psychology with a focus on Child Maltreatment and Development from Norwich University. Barbara's desire to be of service to children and families led her to pursue seminary studies leading to an ordination as a Ministerial Counselor. While volunteering as a Child Advocate in Montgomery County, Maryland, Barbara also ran a successful family counseling practice until 2014 when she decided to take time to write a book about her family of origin - the story of Barbara and her ten siblings, all girls, and their experiences growing up in orphanages and foster care.
Jim and Barbara understand the challenges parents face as they try to provide the best educational opportunities for their children. These educational experiences included public school, private school and homeschooling experiences. Pulling from life experiences as well as educational backgrounds, Barbara and Jim are committed to helping parents help their children. They are excited and eager to be of service to the Charlottesville Hometown Learning Center.
